Recycled textile products created from pre-consumer sock waste

Textile waste is one of the biggest issues of our time and a challenge relating to the UN sustainability development goals, number 12. Innovative design thinking is used as a method during the project for the Danish sock company mp Denmark to investigate both theoretical and practical solutions using circular economy principles.

The primary goal is to transform the current linear supply chain to a circular one, where pre-consumer textile waste cut-offs are seen as a resource integrated in the supply chain.

The concept evolved, Waste Socks, has the potential of making waste valuable through fiber to fiber recycling and creating a recycled yarn. In this way production waste would be incorporated in new high-quality designs and moreover keeping the value within the company itself.

Materials: Oeko-tex cotton, wool, lycra, glitter yarns (pre-consumer waste)
