Graffiti art in the streets of Brooklyn…

Finding inspiration in architecture, more specifically in old & new buildings decorated with graffiti street art in Brooklyn NY. Combining the old faded with the new vivid clean graffiti art, elements are translated into print design in a constrastful way.

The ornaments designed are a combination of a bubble and wild graffiti letter style and are Greek words representing the beauty of the old and faded. ‘Gia panta eripio’ meaning forever ruin.

The textile “building” is supposed to be under construction seen through attached metal sticks. The robotic element of the garment is inspired by the movie ‘Transformers’ where the technique transformational reconstruction is applied.

This was a showpiece presented at Cinemateket during Culture Night Copenhagen 2014.

 Materials: Polycotton blend

Techniques: Silk screen printing, pigment, aquafil, transformational reconstruction in pattern making, sashiko stitching
